Finally, after alot of work and planning, the Manatee High School football team is going to New Jersey to play football. The Hurricanes will play Don Bosco Prep on September 24 in Ramsey, N.J. Don Bosco Prep finished with a 12-0 record last season and won its third straight championships.

The game will be played at Grantell Stadium on the campus of Don Bosco. The Caines will depart for the game on September 23rd and return back to Bradenton on September 25th.

If you arrived at the annual PAL BOWL at Lakewood Ranch last night, you missed one of the best plays of the evening.  Manatee High’s Ace Sanders took the opening kickoff 99 yards untouched for a score as Manatee County wins 26-12 against Sarsota County.

With the win, Manatee snapped its three-game losing streak to Sarasota who leads the all-time series 10-8.

The annual charity game was originally scheduled for Dec. 18 at Riverview High, but the game was cancelled due to serious weather conditions. The game was then moved to Lakewood Ranch because of a scheduling conflict. With the game date changed, this gave Manatee High School players a chance to participate in the classic. The Hurricanes were in Orlando on December 18 at the Citrus Bowl to play in the Class 5A High School Football finals.
Sanders was named the team MVP and finished with four catches for 38 yards. A.J Strong was named Sarasotas MVP of the game. He rushed for 131 yards on 20 carries.

In front of a crowd of 6,725 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, the Manatee High football team came up just short in its quest for a fifth state title in the 5A state championship game.

Falling behind early, the Tampa Plant Panthers put 21 points on the board in the first half and never looked back. Plant out rushed the Hurricanes 167 yards to 78, but the Hurricanes had their passing game working throwing for a total of 264 yards. In the end, it just wasn’t enough as the Canes loose 21-14.

Congratulations to our local team as they have a lot to be proud of.

Manatee High School is headed to the 5A Championship game. Manatee beat No.1 ranked St. Thomas Aquinas 28-20
