I am a baseball fan, true and true but I have to push my favorite sport to the rear when playoff hockey comes around. For a Tuesday night there was so much sports to choose from. My daughter wanted to go to see the Bradenton Marauders play at McKechnie Field, my favorite team the Chicago Cubs were playing the Mets on WGN and then there was the NHL Playoffs on CenterIce. We decided to watch the New Jersey Devils take on the Philadelphia Flyers (game 4) and the BlackHawks vs Nashville (game three).

The ‘ol remote got a workout tonight. During the intermission I was prompted to find a video of the Star Spangled Banner I took while we were at a Hawks - Devils game back in January at the United Center in Chicago. If you’ve ever been to a game in Chicago you know what I mean when WOW!

It reminded me of the good times we as a family can have while enjoying a sporting event, wether it be Going to a minor league sports venue, a professional venue or just sitting at home watching it on TV.

Oh, by the way. We will be at McKechnie Field tomorrow night to watch the first place Bradenton Marauders take on the Jupiter Hammerheads.

This premier racing event of southwest Florida will be held January 23, 2010.

More than 2,000 runners, walkers and joggers take part in this event every January, which is followed by a free family fun festival. The four-mile race is USATF Course Certified # FL09118EBM. In addition to the four-mile race there is a one-mile family fun run that begins at 9 a.m.

Registration fees help fund healthy family programs offered by the Sarasota Family YMCA.

Race start and finish will once again be at the Van Wezel. Team prizes will be awarded for largest, fastest, best dressed and most spirited.

Free child watch will be offered again this year at G.WiZ for parents who are taking part in the race.

Packet pickup will be from 4 - 7 p.m., Fri. Jan. 22 at the Frank G. Berlin, Sr. YMCA (1075 S. Euclid Ave.) at the WWSB ABC 7 Health & Fitness Expo. The Expo includes health care professionals, athletic wear and equipment sales, nutritional products and other information. The expo continues on race day, Jan. 23 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

For more information go to the Sarasota YMCAs website at www.sarasota-ymca.org or click here for more race information.

The Brad Price Memorial PAL Bowl is now scheduled for January 8th at 7:30 PM at Lakewood Ranch High School. The game features Manatee Players vs. Sarasota Players.

The PAL Bowl is run by the Manatee and Sarasota Police Athletic Leagues. Coaching for the Manatee team will be Bradenton Christian’s Allan Gerber and John Sprague from Riverview will coach the Sarasota team.
