Has anyone ever told you the difference between a chicken and an eagle during a storm?  The chicken hides under the barn until the storm passes, whereas the eagle spreads its wings wide and uses the violent wind of the storm to fly higher than it can during the calm. Butch Lumpkin is definitely an eagle! For more information check out Butchs’ website at butchlumpkin.org

I am a baseball fan, true and true but I have to push my favorite sport to the rear when playoff hockey comes around. For a Tuesday night there was so much sports to choose from. My daughter wanted to go to see the Bradenton Marauders play at McKechnie Field, my favorite team the Chicago Cubs were playing the Mets on WGN and then there was the NHL Playoffs on CenterIce. We decided to watch the New Jersey Devils take on the Philadelphia Flyers (game 4) and the BlackHawks vs Nashville (game three).

The ‘ol remote got a workout tonight. During the intermission I was prompted to find a video of the Star Spangled Banner I took while we were at a Hawks - Devils game back in January at the United Center in Chicago. If you’ve ever been to a game in Chicago you know what I mean when WOW!

It reminded me of the good times we as a family can have while enjoying a sporting event, wether it be Going to a minor league sports venue, a professional venue or just sitting at home watching it on TV.

Oh, by the way. We will be at McKechnie Field tomorrow night to watch the first place Bradenton Marauders take on the Jupiter Hammerheads.

7:05 p.m. and 77 degrees the P.A. announcer proclaimed as the historic first pitch of the game was thrown at Bradenton’s McKechnie Field. It was a night of firsts for the new Bradenton franchise. Records were made and some may not be broken for a while.

In the historic first game for the Marauder they scored 18 runs in front of over 2,300 fans and defeated the Ft. Myers Miracle 18-3.

The team’s first hit came from Greg Picart.

Quincy Latimore made sure he got his “FIRSTS” with the first home run and first run scored.

Of course what would a night of “Firsts” be without a grand slam. Jeremy Farrell took that honor in the fourth inning with a monster shot over the left field wall and added another home run in the seventh giving him seven RBIs for the game.

The Marauders gave the fans plenty to cheer about and after a 3 hour baseball game, they enjoyed the post game fireworks show.

Congratulations to the entire Marauders organization for giving the fans a great baseball experience.

The next home game is Monday, April 12th at 7 p.m. Make plans to head out to McKechnie Field and experience Marauders Baseball. www.bradentonmarauders.com
